Cork

Cork flooring is a distinctive and naturally beautiful product. Cork is a "green" natural product harvested from the cork oak tree in Spain and Portugal. The bark of the cork oak is harvested every nine years without harm to the tree, and the tree lives more than 100 years. After stoppers are made for wine bottles, flooring and other products are made from the "leftovers." The leftovers are ground, heated, and pressed under high pressure to fuse together.

Why cork flooring? Cork is naturally warm and rich feeling. Its unique cellular structure gives this flooring excellent resilience, sound absorbency, and thermal insulation. It is fire retardant. It is incredibly durable, and dents from furniture and high heels will spring back. Cork is inherently abrasion-resistant and will withstand decades of high traffic.

Cork is treated as a wood floor for maintenance purposes. It is cleaned with a spray wood cleaner and a terry cloth mop head. Cork can be screened (lightly sanded and recoated with polyurethane) or completely refinished, just as a solid wood product can.

Cork flooring is manufactured in both glue down and floating floor planks. These natural flooring products offer a wonderful alternative to hardwood flooring. Quiet and comfortable cork.
